Embracing The Harp Experience

Virginia Redhead Bethune, harpist, of Harrisonburg, Va., began playing the harp at age 60 in 1995. A lifelong musician trained as a pianist and organist, she supplemented the gifts of her husband Dick who pastored Presbyterian USA churches in Virginia for almost 35 years. As a graduate of the Music for Healing and Transition Program, Virginia is a Certified Music Practitioner (CMP). Virginia and her husband Dick, a retired Presbyterian pastor, reside at Sunnyside near Massanetta Springs, Virginia. Within this site you will find MP3 audio samples for the various MUSIC projects with which she has been involved. Proceeds from these CDs are donated to charities. Through the selling of harp CDs, Virginia has helped to raise over $100,000 to build houses through Habitat for Humanity. There is also information on WORKSHOPS and performance EVENTS as well as LINKS to some of the benefactors of her charitable efforts.

October, 2012, - Concert and CD Release Event for "Songs of Comfort, Songs of Joy!" Raised $4000.00!

This duplex in Elkton, Va. became the home of two families in late 2012-early 2013.

Featuring Curtis and Andrea Nolley and Virginia Bethune at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren. While Virginia and all her colleagues are organizing and rehearsing for the musical events, Central Valley Habitat has been making preparations of its own. A building lot in the Town of Elkton has been purchased and divided to be suitable for a duplex to serve two families. The floor plan has been designed. The Amanda Contreras family is partnering with CVHfH to become the owner of one of the duplex units. Amanda and her sons, Christian and Anthony have been busy earning sweat equity hours through participation in a variety of Habitat activities.

Fall 2012 - HabitatFest: "Singing to Raise the Roof" Raised $11,500.00!

Both performances were held at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren under the direction of Curtis Nolley, long-time music educator and church musician. The commissioned anthem “Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation” by John Barr, Professor of Organ and Piano, Emeritus, Bridgewater College, featured the chorus accompanied by organ, brass quartet, two harps and tympani.
