Music for Healing and Transition Area Co-Ordinator

In 2012-2014-and summer 2016 18 students from across the country (TX, OH, VA, NH, FL, GA, VA, etc.) have taken the Music for Healing and Transition modules in Harrisonburg, Va. Their instruments used for offering therapeutic music at the bedside include harp, cello, dulcimer, guitar, keyboard, viola, violin, and voice. Individuals who present a knowledge of music and at least intermediate proficiency on an instrument may apply. Approximately 10 of these students have become Certified Music Practitioners. • December 2012 January 2013-COMPLETION OF HOUSING FOR 3 HABITAT FAMILIES IN BLACKSBURG AND HARRISONBURG, VA!

October, 2012, CD Release Concert:
"Songs of Comfort, Songs of Joy" with Curtis Nolley, tenor, Andrea Nolley, flute with Virginia, harp and piano at Bridgewater, Va. Church of the Brethren totaled $15,000.00 in proceeds to benefit Central Valley habitat for Humanity House Built with Music
Groundbreaking: Summer 2012!!

• September 2012: HabitatFest "Singing to Raise the Roof":
Bridgewater Church of the Brethren - Ecumencial Choral Festival. $11,500 raised, including sale of almost $2000 in CDs.

• 2009 The Singing Strings Trio:
Kris Cushman, Ann Daggett, Joyce Brunk, and Virginia Bethune - Harps

• 2006 Harp Extravaganzas:
Produced in Blacksburg, Va (2006) and Harrisonburg, Va. Jessica Frost, professional harpist, Stephens City, Va, co-produced the latter. 25 harp players and Robbin Gordon-Cartier, nationally known harpist and clinician, led efforts to raise funds to help Build Habitat Houses with Music.

• 2003 the New River Valley Divertimento Trio: Carter Edmondson - flute, Marya Katz - dulcimer, and Virginia Bethune - Harp

• 2004 the Shenandoah Valley Divertimento Trio: Maddie MacNeil - dulcimer, Sally Millar - flute, and Virginia Bethune - Harp

Each of these groups perform in their own region.
